Really, this post is for everyone and anyone reading my blog, but I suspect that the dancers will appreciate it the most.
I just got back from my very first "Improv Jam." It was great! It's one of a group of classes in my program called "wake-up classes." We have to go to three "wake-ups" per week, and there are seven to choose from (two running sessions, an improv jam, a pilates class, a yoga class, an "improvers" ballet class, and an "advanced" ballet class). For any non-dancers, an improv jam is basically a dance class without choreography. We do different exercises, but all the movement is made up as we go. I have to admit that I was hesitant about diving into improv. Actually, I was sort of dreading it. I didn't think I would like it at all, but the class proved me wrong. The class is taught by two third year students (third year is the final year of most programs at CU), and students from any of the year groups can come. Some of the third year students are phenomenal at improv; it was really helpful to have people who knew what they were doing to play off of. We started out going across the floor with a partner just keeping eye contact. As the class went on, we began to incorporate contact improv, and, by the end, people were being lifted left and right. I was often on the liftee end of the lifter/liftee relationship (you SEMO dancers know how much I love to be lifted), but my goal is to become a lifter as well as a liftee by the end of the term. The dancers are a load of fun as well, and I'm excited to work with the group for a few months.

So happy for you Laura! As much as I hate getting up in the mornings, I would absolutely LOVE the "wake up" classes! And, improv away!!
Laura - What a wonderful opportunity! I look forward to hearing about all of your adventures.
I don't see what's the big deal. Every morning when I dash out onto my porch to the the newspaper in my underwear and the school bus comes down the street I do an Improv dance trying to back inside the door.
HA! Maybe the dancers could use some of your moves, Ken!!
